Circumstances

On December 27, 2022, Provincial Constable Greg Pierzchala (age 28) was shot and killed when responding to a call of a motor vehicle in a ditch west of Hagersville, Ontario.

Provincial Constable Pierzchala began his career with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) on May 20, 2019, as a Special Constable with the Queen's Park OPP Detachment. On September 7, 2021, he was hired as a recruit with the OPP, fulfilling his long-time dream of becoming a police officer.

Colleagues describe Provincial Constable Pierzchala as the officer everyone wanted to work with. He was known as someone with a big heart, and this reflected in his work with the community. He was an accomplished athlete, holding a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Okinawan Karate. In high school, he participated in soccer, swimming, wrestling, rowing and track and field. He competed in varsity wrestling and was an Academic All-Canadian. He was also fluent in Polish.

Provincial Constable Pierzchala leaves behind his parents, Jan and Janina, and three siblings, Chris, Michal and Justyna.
