Circumstances
Detective Sergeant Thomas Whitelaw of 8 Division answered an alarm call in the area of Broadview Ave. and Queen St. Upon arrival, he discovered that entry had been made and engaged in a foot pursuit of two shop breaking suspects. During the foot chase he jumped off a loading platform of a warehouse and fractured his ankle.
He was admitted to hospital for treatment. He suffered complications and died as a result of his injuries in the Toronto General Hospital on November 17, 1938.
Postscript
Detective Sergeant Whitelaw had served with the Metro Toronto Police since 1912 and was attached to the detective division for 18 years.
