DETAILS: Constable Lau and his partner Constable Harley Kellar were waiting at the intersection of University Avenue and Brock Street for a high speed pursuit to pass by so that they could join in the pursuit. As the stolen vehicle being pursued entered the intersection the driver turned from Brock St. onto University Ave. broadsiding the police cruiser, a 1978 Chev Nova. Constable Lau, the driver was killed instantly. Constable Kellar suffered severe injuries.

Thomas B. Cooper

November 8th, 1973

DETAILS: On Monday, September 17, 1973 Detective Cooper attended 40 Lower Union St. in the City of Kingston to assist 2 uniform officers. The call concerned a domestic involving a man with a gun. Thomas Joseph Blowing opened fire at the scene first through a wall and then an open door. Detective Cooper was struck in the head and succumbed to his wounds on November 8, 1973.

Millard A. Brennan

August 15th, 1951

DETAILS: Constable Millard A. Brennan was working a night shift with his partner on August 15, 1951, when they were dispatched to the report of a prowler in the Churchill Crescent area of the city. They found and arrested the suspect after a foot pursuit. While driving back to the station, Millard suffered a seizure. He was rushed to hospital but died shortly after arriving. It was determined he had suffered a massive heart attack.

Merritt C. Gray

April 29th, 1948

DETAILS: On April 26, 1948 Constable Gray was operating a police motorcycle on Princess St. in Kingston. While attempting to pass a vehicle his motorcycle struck a patch of oil, swerved and struck an unpaved area. He was thrown from the vehicle and struck his head on the pavement. He died four days later in hospital.

Samuel James Arniel

April 19th, 1919

DETAILS: On the afternoon of April 19, 1919, Sergeant Samuel Arniel was escorting a man who was under arrest back to the police station. The prisoner began to struggle, attempting to break free and escape. Sergeant Arniel suffered a massive heart attack and died.
